Floating market

The floating market tours are a highlight of every visit to Can Tho. The shops and stalls at these markets are boats of different sizes which sell mango, bananas, papaya, pineapple, and even smuggled goods like cigarettes. To catch the most lively scene at the markets, tours start early in the morning, usually between 5-6 AM.

Cai Rang Floating Market, 6km from Can Tho in Mekong river, is the largest floating market and the traders are more motorised. It opens all day but it is busiest from sunrise to about 9AM. The main items sold there are farm products. It is the main wholesale floating market.

Phong Dien Floating Market, 20km southwest of Can Tho, is more relaxed and less crowded.. It is further upstream the Can Tho river, and worth seeing as it is a retail market. It is very active at dawn, but slows down early too, so you may want to go there by land. The arroyos back to Can Tho are also very much worth a ride on a small boat. If you miss the floating market tour, it means you have not been in Cantho.
